Carrileufú, Rivadavia and Arrayanes Rivers
The rivers around Los Alerces National Park run clear, and La Pilarica River & Mountain Lodge sits on one of them. The Carrileufú is the home river and can be fished in several different sections, while the Rivadavia and Arrayanes fill other days of the week. The Arrayanes day starts at the lake and moves on to a shorter river section.
Laguna Larga and the Spring Creek
In a sample week the fifth day goes either to a spring creek, where the fishing is technical and selective, or to Laguna Larga, which is recommended for large brown trout. Anglers wade or fish from a boat, and dry flies work well when conditions allow.
Brown Trout, Rainbows and Landlocked Salmon
Wild brown trout are the most sought after, alongside wild rainbow trout, brook trout and landlocked salmon. January and February are the peak months for fish size, November and December are less crowded, and March and early April can be exceptional for large browns.
Guides, Rods and Season
The lodge takes up to ten rods a week, with one guide to every two anglers, over seven nights and six days from November to April. Fishing equipment and flies are not supplied, so the lodge suggests a 9-foot 5 or 6 weight with a floating line and a sinking tip of about 200 grains, plus waders that fit well. Fishing licenses and park entry are included.
